Baltic Comic Festival - GDAK

25th June - 26th June 2011

We would like to invite everyone to the great comic event Baltic Comic Festival - GDAK (BFK - GDAK). It will take place in Tricity (Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia) one of the most beautiful metropolis in Poland located in the north of our country.

The main goal of this event is to gather creators, fans, publishers as well as scholars sharing great interest in comics. It will be a wonderful opportunity to exchange opinions or gather theoretical and practical experience in the field of sequential art. Moreover, this event could be the only chance not only to see the works of the well- known artists it their native country, but also to talk to them in person. There is a variety of different attractions to choose from and the main ones are listed beneath:

  • Workshops connected with drawing and script writing for comics;
  • Panel meeting with comics publishers;
  • Discussion on the following topic "Witting and talking about comics" - meeting with journalists and comic critics;
  • Pop cultural lectures by comic scholars;
  • And many more.

Baltic Comic Festival is one of the most important comic events in Poland. This year we will meet for the 4th time. During those years we had visitors from different parts of globe including: David Lloyd (UK, co-creator of V for Vendetta), Guy Delisle (Canada, creator of Pyongyang), Jaqueline Berndt (Germany, currently Japan, professor at Seika University), Rutu Modan (Israel, creator of Exit Wounds), Yoshimasa Mizuo (Japan, producer of Ghost in the Shell), Olivier Schrauwen (Belgium, creator of My Boy), Rick Sanders (Netherlands, editor of Stripschrift) or Kees Ribbens (Netherlands, comic researcher from Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences, Amsterdam). This year we also expect guests from abroad (including China, Korea, Japan and Venezuela) as well as people form Polish comic scene (artists, fans researchers and publishers).

If you are a: creator, publisher, journalist, critic or even comic fan who wants to talk about your comics from your country (or if you have anything interesting that you want to share with other fans), do not hesitate to write to us.

You do not have to even speak English at all (though please write to us in English, Polish or Japanese)! We are able to arrange a volunteer interpreters of different languages who will interpret your presentation during the festival.

Volunteer interpreters will be helping all the participants from outside Poland. Taking part in the event is free, but if you are coming from the other country please let us know sending some information by email (with the list of the languages that you can communicate in). This will be helpful so as to help you to have fun during the festival and feel comfortable at the same time.

There is also a possibility to take a free guide tour to see Tricity. With the group of fans you would be able to see over one-thousand-year-old Gdansk, spring resort of Sopot and a port of Gdynia.
